Should You Even Bother With Certain Social Media Networks?March 8, 2021
Last week I posted a teaser post letting you know that I’d be posting some new marketing content each Monday for #MarketingMonday, and the first question I posed was…
𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗢𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗼𝗿 𝗻𝗼𝘁?

Unless your primary job role is that of marketing professional, you likely don’t have all day to work on the marketing efforts for your product, service or offering.
𝐒𝐨 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐝𝐨? THE ANSWERS…
1.) Do you sign up for every single network that exists and hope that someone, somewhere finds you?
MAYBE. MAYBE NOT.
Honestly, the first thing you want to consider is, WHO IS MY AUDIENCE? Once you’ve established WHO it is you’ll be talking to, the next consideration is, WHERE DOES MY AUDIENCE SPEND THEIR TIME? If your target audience is a little older, the likelihood of them being on Snapchat or TikTok is pretty few and far between, so instead, put your efforts into building a robust presence on Facebook, or on NextDoor, or create videos that bring value and text those links to them.
You see where I’m going with this?
Now sure, if you’re working with a lot of first time home buyers and your audience is starting to skew younger and younger…well, then you’re gonna need to speak their language. If they are spending all of their time consuming video content on TikTok, Reels and Instagram…then you know that’s where you need to put your efforts.
As for the EVERY NETWORK idea…I mean sure, from an organic SEO standpoint, it certainly HELPS to be in as many places as possible, but in reality, if you create an account somewhere and never put content up…isn’t that almost WORSE than not being there at all?
You really need to be intentional with your efforts.
2.) Do you pick one or two networks that you feel confident in and focus all your efforts on those networks?
Again, it’s less about what YOU are confident in and 100% about WHERE IS MY IDEAL AUDIENCE SPENDING THEIR TIME? If you feel uncomfortable with a certain part of the technology or feel overwhelmed by not knowing WHAT TO POST…you’re not alone. Even professional marketers struggle with this dilemma. (I may or may not be speaking from experience)
The best way to conquer those fears is to sign up for webinars that teach you new talents (shameless plug…all of us “Nerds” do TONS of them…feel free to inquire within to learn more!) and come up with a structured game plan!
3.) Do you hire someone to do it all for you?
This is always a hot topic…outsource or do it yourself, right? Well in complete honesty, you’re ALWAYS better served to be the voice of your brand and have creative and operational control over the content that is posted to your account, but I also understand that some realtors are just too darn busy & delegating is what is best for them. If that is you, consider adding an intern to your team that can really take on the voice of your brand and that you can mold to represent your brand in an original and authentic manner. Every week I train top producing realtors assistants to optimize their social…it absolutely CAN be done!
But if that’s not an option for you and you want to hire an agency or a service, just make sure it’s going to fit your brand. Is the content going to be the same generic stuff that everyone posts on their real estate accounts? If so, you may benefit from the fresh content with helps with your organic search, but your engagement and views may be super low. Again, you’ll just have to make some decisions on what’s best for YOUR BRAND as you go.
4.) Do you do something COMPLETELY different…(if so, what do you do?!)
Well, I’m so glad you asked (wait…I’m the one that asked, nevermind, LOL!) But yes, I DO recommend trying something a little different. In fact, for today’s #MarketingMonday tip I showed how spontaneously GOING LIVE and sharing wisdom or a tip or fun fact is a GREAT WAY to increase your engagement, views and authority.
