Is Pokemon Go the “next big thing” in real estate marketing?

As someone who likes to pride myself on being on the forefront of marketing/technology for real estate… I’m always looking for ways to take advantage of new trends, apps or technology to help our clients improve their businesses.

Early on it was helping people with email campaigns, then blogging, then platforms like MySpace, LinkedIn and Facebook came along. Even to think of Facebook in it’s infancy vs today being one of the most powerful advertising platforms available is still somewhat mind blowing to me.

We’ve come a long way from the days of me getting laughed out of a meeting where I proclaimed “you can actually get business from these!” By the way… who’s laughing NOW?

Recently we’ve seen platforms like Instagram and Snapchat storm the beaches with gurus all across the land teaching classes on how to leverage them for new business.

While I’m still not 100% sold on the idea of something like Snapchat being a viable platform for most people to leverage in this way… it has definitely been interesting (and amusing at times) to watch.

As I stated in a previously written article: “I’ve been struggling to wrap my head around how SnapChat was going to do that for us in the real estate industry.”

Friends keep asking; what is it about Snapchat that I dislike? What do I have against it? Why can’t I just ignore it and let people have a good time?

Well my snap happy friends… you can all rejoice today! There’s a new trend popping up that I think is even worse than overlaying the face of a dog on top of mine and then asking you to view my new listing.

Enter Pokemon Go as the next fad that the “trendsetters” will be pushing as a way you can explode your business!

Now I did absolutely ZERO fact checking to see if this is even real… but if history is any indicator, I’d be willing to bet that someone, somewhere has already tried this.

Will it work? I don’t know.

What I do know is that this crazy little platform that launched just days ago has already destroyed records in every app store, raised the market cap of what most considered a dying dinosaur of a brand (Nintendo) and has begun to unite a nation in ways I’ve never imagined.

So, I’ll never say it can’t help a Realtor sell a home, and like Snapchat… it’ll be entertaining to watch those that try.
